Books are the plane, the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home. (Anna Quindlen)
At Jimmy Hugoson, we embrace a style of writing where the boundaries between poetry and prose have been blurred- if not entirely erased, then at least softened. Our approach draws inspiration from the 19th century Russian literary tradition found in the works of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, where narration is prominent yet the storytelling remains deeply captivating.
Does that mean their writing is tailored for readers in a hurry- or to exaggerate, for the lazy? Not quite. We believe that an author’s choice of words can be both direct and layered, demanding effort and engagement from the reader or listener. A seemingly simple sentence , like Albert Camus’ famous ” Today my mother dies. Or maybe yesterday,” can hold multiple meanings, revealing deeper significance when placed within the full context of the story.
While we acknowledge the strengths of contemporary storytelling – a balance of showing and telling- we aim to adopt a blend approach in our books.
Additionally, many of our works embrace a blurred lines. A Bizarre but Usual Proposition (coming soon) is a prime example, seamlessly merging romance and crime.
The Hugoson literary universe explore both social issues and the complexities of human soul. We believe that a novel should be a work of art , a tool for learning, and a reflection of both the world as it is and as it could be. Above all, our goal is to offer our readers a compelling and thought-provoking experience, standing as a worthy alternative among countless other choices.
